All that matters as far as format is that you shoot at a good resolution.

there are actually lots of indie theatres now n days that will play a minidv or dvd or bring in the equipment to play those formats. one of those theatres is the Laemmle theatres in the Los Angeles area, but there's theatres all over the U.S. that will do this you just have to check. don't waste the money blowing it up to film (which is probably about 100 grand for a feature, roughly) unless you're lucky enough to get a distributor that takes your film and does it for you.

best of luck to whatver route you take!

    Hi captulita65,

Sounds like you've got a very useful friend there.

I am really curious where you got the loan from? A film fund? Bank? Private investor?

    What's the film called?

this is either a prank, or a really crazy scheme.

That's really awesome if you really do have an F900 and about $150,000 to spend. I sincerely hope you can make your money back.

As far as learning how to actually make a film... have you considered perhaps making something with no budget first just to get the hang of it?

Good luck with all that. Most of us would like to have what you want. Only difference is that most of us are trying to actually pay our dues and look at reality when it comes to our success. I hope you make it with your first one, I really do....

By the way, it depends on the title. Just a heads up. Our group worked over a year on a feature project originally called "Thunder Road" we were contacted by a lawyer 3 days before the premier saying that title was TRADEMARKED and if we showed the movie we would recieve huge fine and would never be able to show the film at festivals or ever again for that matter. We layed down and had to change the title to "Looking For Hope" We then screened it at the local movie theatre without blowing it up to 35mm. We were able to stick with mini DV. We sold out the entire weekend. Now it is on to festivals.

Bottom line, titles matter and you CAN show your movie without blowing it up.

    Good Luck dude!

Just so you know what you're up against, The Weinstein brothers wanted to raise investments up into the billions before they commited to their new distribution company. This is after they left Mirimax.

Fear not, we are on a similar page Matt.

Is anyone else (esp older forum members) getting an engulfing sense of deja vu?

    Anybody remember Brenda Smith?

Hey captulita65, what age are you? A lot of the people on here are quite young. I'm 23 myself.
